GREAT LOVES NEVER END

GREAT LOVES NEVER END.

They don't even start. They only last in an eternal time and we are always there for them. And when the lovers meet again it is like a blow. They smile awkwardly, look deep into the eyes, nod their heads with tears and tenderness in their eyes. They are silent for a minute, moved, and then they touch, hold each other's hands tightly, and say goodbye. And it takes a while before they can look someone else in the eye again…

On the occasion of the death of the artist Ulai, who passed away today at the age of 76, I remembered this unique video.

THE creator energy of love flows

within 1 minute

without words

with the eyes saying it all.

Marina Abramovic & Ulay

A great love in the 70s-80s. Two subversive artists. Together they made many strange performances in their attempt to map the limits of love and cohabitation through live representation, while trying to place performance as an art equal to the rest.

They even experienced their separation this way. The two walked for many days along the Great Wall from opposite sides and met in the middle. They embraced and never saw each other again…

Until her retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York 30 years later (in May 2010). In "The Artist is Present"*, her largest and most demanding performance, the priestess of contemporary art remained for three months impassive in a chair. For 7.30 hours a day she sat motionless, without being allowed to drink, eat or do anything, and visitors could sit before her in silence for a minute. 750 thousand people were lost in her gaze. Among them, unbeknownst to her, was Ulay...

At Abramovic's exhibition in Athens a few years ago I tried this unique experience for a while.

Look someone unknown in the eyes for 1 minute.

Without wanting.

No expectations.

Just exploring the soul gate…

This video cracks me up every time I watch it:
