BMW's surprising farewell to the Mercedes boss

When an intelligent advertising campaign is combined with respect for the great "opponent" and competition that inspires your development and becoming better…

A very long circle has closed. The most charismatic manager in the automotive industry is retiring. Dieter Zetsche says goodbye to the Daimler Group and Mercedes, as it is time for the new generation.

Also known as "the moustache", always dressed sporty - in jeans and the classic sneakers -, Zetsche played an important role in the rebirth of Mercedes and in its "launch" in every field, from passenger cars to F1.

But time is relentless. Having reached the age of 65, the head of the German group handed over the scepter to Ola Kälenius.

Wanting to say goodbye to him, BMW, a great rival of Mercedes, created a wonderful video, showing the value of respect, recognition and the contribution of a great person and professional.

In the video, a Zetsche bodyguard leaves Daimler's offices amid applause. He hands over his card and his personal driver takes him home for the last time. Dieter looks at the Mercedes S-Class driving away. He then opens his garage door and drives off in the i8.

In the end, BMW thanks him for all the years of healthy and inspiring competition.
