THE PATROL

I was returning yesterday evening by car from Panormou to Elliniko.

Although it was past 11 and the quarantine has already started, there were quite a few cars on the road.

I turn right from L. Mesogeion towards Katehaki and the traffic light is red at the intersection with Kokkinopoulou.

I see a patrol car coming from the perpendicular road and stop abruptly after the traffic light, turn right, sound the alarm and stop in front of the crossing where there was a father (masked) with his two young children, age 6 at most .

I admit I had a fleeting thought that they were stopping to see if he had any papers with him or if he had sent a message. Luckily this mini mind chatter lasted seconds. The two policemen quickly get out of the patrol car, go to the man, say something to him.

Then they each take a children's bike in hand, the man takes his 2 children by the hands and they proceed quickly to the junction between the 2 directions of Katehaki. They wait for the traffic light to come on to pass security on the opposite side...

Our traffic light turns green, I put a big smile on my face watching them chat as they wait to cross.

Yes there are people who they choose to help their fellow man.

Yes there are police officers who choose to stop, unbidden, to help a father at 11 p.m.

Yes, everything exists in this world.

The good and the good.

The beautiful and the ugly.

The just and the unjust.

The question is: which one do I choose to see?
